For the fifth consecutive year, Nuestra Comunidad Sana organized this 4-day camp for incoming freshmen to Hood River Valley High School. They do all sorts of activities, field trips and games that promote communication, teamwork and leadership. They also visit the high school campus so they feel less intimidated during their first days there.
This is a drug and alcohol prevention program and the participants’ surveys showed that they learned a lot about the dangers of drug use. Other questions asked on the surveys were if they learned about how to find help for problems, if they could recognize how their behavior can influence others, and if they could recognize and avoid unsafe situations or peer pressure. Asked what they liked most about the camp, one girl answered, “Knowing more about the school and doing a lot of fun activities.”
Another stated, “Thank you so much, I really loved camp Fresh and enjoyed it. I hope The Next Door Inc. keeps doing this program because it’s really helped me as an incoming freshman to get a better feel about how high school will be.”
Employees Nicole Mejia, Joanna Vega, Gabriel Muro, Kieran Connolly and volunteer Aaron Keller really helped this year be our most successful yet!

- Camp counselors Nubia Contreras, Carlos Trejo, and Vanessa Banuelos enjoy paddle boats at Lost Lake. What a great job they did as counselors!
